WMG’s Advanced Engineering Programme helps manufacturers develop key engineering skills

WMG, at the University of Warwick, has welcomed over 150 talented employees onto its novel four-year engineering degree programme this year, with the total number of students on the course now at over 300.

Individuals from a range of organisations including PENSO, Webster & Horsfall, Honda, Network Rail and Jaguar Land Rover are benefiting from learning and earning at the same time, and working towards a Bachelor of Engineering degree awarded by the University of Warwick.

Participating employers and employees are already noting the impact of the programme on their organisations:

“WMG is the perfect partner to help develop our engineering community and I am delighted that so many of our employees will be able to study for a degree at one of the UK’s leading academic institutions.”

Dr Ralf Speth, Chief Executive, Jaguar Land Rover

“The AEP has given me a much better understanding of mechanics. I am already in a much better position to review contractors’ plans and costs. This puts Network Rail in a much stronger position, and more able to obtain an overall cost-effective solution. The programme is very challenging but I am finding it extremely interesting and useful.”

Jason Day, Asset Engineer Signalling (Renewals & Enhancements), Network Rail

The programme is suitable for:

·  Employees who have completed a standard apprenticeship and want to go further

·  Individuals on a Higher Degree or Apprenticeship

·  More experienced employees who show an aptitude for engineering and who have the potential to develop within in the company

The team at WMG are also keen to talk to employers who might want to develop their own degree apprenticeship within their organisations.

The next cohort will be starting in October, and those interested in signing up will be asked to sit a Math’s entrance test.
